Welcome to Nightjar Records, the online home of singer-songwriter Nath Dresser, who lives in Spring Green, Wisconsin and performs regularly throughout the southern portion of the state, and sometimes beyond.

Nightjar Records is basically a cottage industry. So far the recordings released on Nightjar Records have involved Nath and/or Marnie Dresser and have been recorded in Nightjar's modest home studio. The aim is to produce and market simple recordings that present musical or literary material in a manner that’s faithful to the performance and the work itself. In a sense, it’s folk recording, pure and simple. (Think Harry Smith with modern equipment and a fixed address.)

Live music is a high priority here at Nightjar Records. Wherever you live, Nightjar Records urges you to support local musicians and the local venues that feature live local music.

winter musings. . . .

Summer's long gone, and autumn picked up its skirts and slinked away when the first snow hit Spring Green. Winter brings a music all its own: the crunch of snow underfoot, the scrape of shovels on sidewalks and snow-rakes on roofs, the rush and sigh of warm air cycling through vents, the gurgle of ice giving way in the washing machine's drain to a teakettle's worth of boiling water. . . .

Ah, winter in Wisconsin.

Winter means fewer gigs, too. Which might mean more time for writing and recording. The coming weeks will tell.

Be sure to check the calendar, though, since there are some gigs listed.
